Where to Buy Aluminum Fences

By Damian Sofsian There is no dearth of aluminum fence manufacturers in the U.S. Once you start looking, you will find several stores that sell aluminum fences. You will probably chance upon a dealer who deals in all kinds of fencing, and aluminum fencing would be one of the products. Or else you may find a dealer who deals exclusively in aluminum fences. With such a dealer you will find a wide variety of fences to choose from. However, before you decide to buy, there are certain points to be taken into consideration. First of all, the purpose of your fence should be very clear. And that factor will decide the kind of dealer or manufacturer to you should deal with. If you are looking for a functional, sturdy fence, approaching the manufacturer directly is a good bet. This will enable you to select the type of aluminum to be used for your fence. You can get a fence made as per your specifications. However, if you are looking for an ornamental fence, it would be better to approach a retailer who will have a lot of ornamental ideas sourced from various places. You will have a wider choice and will be exposed to several new ideas. It often happens that you walk into a retail store with a fixed idea and come out having decided upon something else. Exposure to other ideas helps you to broaden your taste. If you are buying aluminum fencing for a pool, it is essential to check the manufacturer’s credentials. There are strict regulations regarding the type of fencing for pools. You should buy from a manufacturer who has strictly adhered to required specifications. Poolside fences are exposed to a lot of moisture from pools, so it is essential that the fencing be of a very good quality so that it can withstand exposure to chemically treated pool water. Aluminum Fences provides detailed information on Aluminum Fences, Affordable Alluminum Fences, Ornamental Aluminum Fences, Aluminum Pool Fences and more. The Best Easy Cookie Recipes

By Ann Krause Rookie cooks are often scared to get beyond opening pouches and mixing milk with cheese powder to make macaroni and cheese. The idea of taking raw ingredients and mixing them together to produce a finished end product scares them more than spiders and snakes. The sad thing is how many people go their entire cooking lives like that. Sometimes, all it takes is making a few easy cookie recipes to get their comfort level up and get them cooking on their own. For all of these, it’s perfectly fine to start off using a boxed mix. That will get you accustomed to the baking process and to the routine of dishing the batter onto the cookie sheets and then pulling the finished products off to cool. Eventually, though, it’s time to leave the prepackaged mix nest and spread your wings to fly into the world of real cookie baking. Here are the four main types of easy cookie recipes: Peanut butter cookies: For the kid whose favorite lunch was a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, this is the king. There’s no cookie easier to make, and they deliver on flavor. Oatmeal cookies: These are the ones made by the kids whose moms wanted them to have cookies, but wanted something at least a little bit healthy. For the fiber-conscious sweet hound, they’re great, and they’re one of the greatest blank slates for add-ins from raisins to chocolate chips. Chocolate chip cookies: From the classic Toll House to the vast world beyond, every recipe collection has at least one chocolate chip recipe. They are a universal favorite, and a good step to more complex baking as they are usually the most complex of the easy cookie recipes. Sugar cookies: The holiday favorite, this will get you some great practice with a rolling pin and with producing cookies in volume and decorating them. Whichever easy cookie recipe you choose, you’re sure to have fun eating the results! Ann Marie Krause has been making cookies for over 30 years, at persent I am retired, for over 23 years I owned a Gourmet Bakery called The Cheese Confectioner. You can visit my site at http://www.annsgoodies.com NOTE: You are welcome to reprint this article online as long as it remains complete and unaltered (including the about the author info at the end). How to Make a Rubber Band Gun

By Brenda H. Murphy Back in the days when kids made a lot of their toys, some devious little mind came up with a way to fire rubber bands off more than their own thumbs. Thus was born the rubber band gun. Today, they’re enjoying such a resurgence of popularity, that you can even buy guns carved from wood, that replicate actual weapons such as repeating rifles, pistols and more. But for a simply weapon to give your friends a snapping good time, try this. Gather up a piece of wood, such as a short section of 1×2″ lumber, a wooden clothespin, some Crazy Glue, a nail and a hammer. You’re going to want to glue the clothespin at the rear of the 1″ side, which should be on top. But first, take a nail no more than 2″ long, and 1/8″ thick, and cut the flat head off, and file it down. Mark on the piece of wood, where the end of the clothespin will be, and drive the nail into the wood, sharp end down, about 1/3″ from where the mark is. Leave about 3/4″ of the nail sticking up. Now drill a hole through the end of the clothespin, with a bit that is slightly larger than the width of the nail. Make sure you drill through both sides of the pin. Apply glue to one narrow side of the clothespin, from the open end, down to the drilled hole. Don’t get glue in the hole. Now place the clothespin on the piece of 1×2″, making sure it’s got the nail fitted through the hole. You might want to try the fit, before applying the glue. Cut a notch in the end of your wood, just below the top, so you can hook one end of the rubber band there. Now pull it back, and hook the other end over the protruding nail. To fire, just open the clothespin. There should be enough motion to allow the upper part of the pin, to push the rubber band off. For more zing to your gun, cut a second shorter piece of wood and glue it underneath at a 90-degree angle, to approximate the shape of a pistol. Insert your nail and glue your clothespin to the back of the “grip”. This will make for a longer stretch to the band, and more snap when you fire. I know you can remembergo back there now. I want you to remember somethingthe butterflies in your stomach, the magic, the awkwardness, and that rush of anticipation. Did you get nervous? Did you preen yourself before the mirror for hours before the appointed time? Did your heart beat faster when you first saw him or her coming through the restaurant door or sitting at a table waiting for you as you rushed in late. Why were you nervous? Isnt it because that meeting was special? You wanted everything to turn out right. You wanted to be right for the other person. You anticipated a magical future. What happened before that date? What kind of person were you? What kind of person did you want to meet? And how did you feel when you first saw him or her? Now plunge right into the moments of that first date. Do you remember how he or she looked at you? Do you remember exchanging meaningful glances? Do you remember the smile, the motion of the hand, and the tilt of the head? What did you talk about on that first date? How did you feel? What happened after the date? Where did you go? What did you do? Can you recall that burst of happiness? When did it occur? Do you remember the silences, the jokes, the special music, and the magical places? How long did your romance last? How do you feel right now? Is the magic still there? Has it faded away? If youre like me, you want the magic to make a come-back. Now, its time to do something special. Ask your spouse out on a date. The Secret to Staying Motivated for New Year Weight Loss

By David Petersen Research indicates that about 95% of people who begin a fat reduction program will fail to achieve their goals. Why? While there are a multitude of reasons why this occurs, undoubtedly the primary reasons are a lack of motivation and weight loss results not meeting personal expectations. This article describes the single most effective and scientifically based way of monitoring the success of your fat reduction program – using Bioelectrical Impedance Assessment to provide a road map for your quest. What is Bioelectrical Impedance (BIA)? BIA is an assessment that allows a very accurate determination of the two components of body composition: adipose/body fat tissue and lean tissue (muscle and bone) while simultaneously reducing the variation that can occur when using repeated skinfold measurement. BIA is comparable to the Gold Standard of body composition determination underwater weighing. (BIA is less invasive than skin fold measurements as the test can be performed fully clothed). The BIA test itself involves using a BIA machine that passes a tiny, imperceptible electrical charge between an electrode on your hand and an electrode on your foot. The BIA unit measures the resistance (impedance) of the electrical charge, and from this information accurately determines percent body fat and the percent lean tissue. Basically the principle of its operation is this: muscle which is high in water content conducts electricity well and offers a lower resistance in comparison to adipose tissue which contains minimal water and offers a high resistance. Therefore, if the impedance reading is low, the percent body fat is low and vice versa. Why does BIA help with motivation and adherence to a weight-loss program? In another article on our website we explained the complications of using changes in body weight to judge the success of a fat reduction campaign. We mentioned that monitoring body composition is essential since weight loss is a relative term and fluctuations in body fluid and lean muscle tissue complicate scale readings. For example, if you include resistance training in your fat-loss campaign and you rely on the scale reading, you may get discouraged when you put on weight since muscle, which is high in water content weighs more than fat. BIA is a great way of providing a plan or a map for tracking your progress and staying motivated since you are able to monitor both components of body weight adipose tissue and lean (muscle and bone) tissue independently. BIA provides you concrete evidence of slight changes in lean muscle tissue and fat percentage – even when body dimensions and body weight may not give an indication. This is important because an increase in lean tissue percentage (from resistance training, for example) automatically decreases body fat percentage and vice versa. What other benefits does BIA offer to help me stay motivated? In addition to being able to measure fat and lean tissue, BIA is also able to provide ideal body fat and lean tissue ranges based on your actual test results – not from height/weight tables and other normative data. This makes your fat loss goal more personal and scientifically realistic – boosting motivation. Most BIA units will also provide your Basal Metabolic Rate or BMR. BMR is the minimum amount of energy (calorie) required by the body to sustain essential life functions such as heartbeat and breathing. BMR is directly proportional to lean muscle tissue content, since muscle consumes energy and produces body heat. For example, even at rest, a bodybuilder will have a higher metabolism and consume more energy than an unconditioned sedentary individual. In addition, some BIA units can even calculate an Estimated Average Requirement or EAR- the number of calories (energy) you require in a day to maintain your present weight based on your BMR and your reported daily physical activity level. The EAR is probably the most useful piece of information a person on a fat loss plan can use, as it gives a scientifically determined calorie target based on their personal lifestyle to work from again providing direction and added motivation to stick it out and lose fat mass and not just weight. From the EAR you can calculate the number of calories a day to cut out using diet and exercise. For example, if your goal is to lose 2 lb of fat a week, then you will need to cut about 1 000 calories from your EAR [(3 500 cal/lb fat divided by 7 days/week) x 2]. Lastly, a BIA will also provide information on your hydration status. Hydration during fat reduction plans is essential as the products of low caloric diets like ketones and urea must be eliminated via the urine increasing the risk of dehydration and slanting weight loss results. Where can I get a BIA and what are some tips to getting a good test? Most reputable weight loss centers, personal trainers or exercise physiologists can provide this assessment. Be careful though not to place a high reliability on hand-held BIA units (body fat tester) or a BIA scales you stand on. These units have electrodes in contact only with the hands or feet and measure impedance mostly of either the upper or lower body respectively. Aim for a BIA that uses separate electrodes that attach to the hands and feet, as this will provide a more accurate reading since impedance is measured in the full dimensions of the body simultaneously. Also, make sure the tester is experienced, that he/she uses new electrodes and prepares the skin for electrode placement. In conclusion, it is essential that to stay motivated and adhere to your fat loss program you need some sort of guide to help you along the way. Without a fat loss road map you will soon find yourself lost – lacking direction and motivation. Take the time and effort to get a BIA assessment and use it monitor your progress, and you will be less likely to be one of the 95% that fail in their fat loss quest and will be rewarded with a leaner, more attractive and healthier body. Aromatherapy – Part I: Essential Oils

By Danny Siegenthaler a) WHERE DO ESSENTIAL OILS COME FROM ? – Essential Oils Part 1 The odoriferous substances (Essential oils) themselves are formed in the chloroplasts of the leaves where they combine with glucose to form glucides and are then circulated around the plant in this form. At certain times of the day or year they are stored in particular parts of the plant. In some plants, the essential oils are produced by the secretory tissues, and in others they are combined with glycosides, and are therefore not detectable until the plant is dried or crushed, e.g.: Valerian Essential oils are considered to be an important part of the plant’s metabolism: some have hormonal activity and others are a stage in some other process, e.g.: the oil found in the rind of the orange is a stage in Vitamin A synthesis. Essential oils can be found in almost any part of the plant, in differing concentrations, depending on the plant itself, the time of day and year. They may be found in the roots (e.g.: Calamus and Valerian), flowers (e.g. Lavender, Rose,), bark (e.g. Sandalwood, Cedarwood), fruits (e.g.: Lemon, Cardamom, Orange), berries (e.g. Juniper), leaves (e.g. Thyme, Rosemary, Sage). Plants which contain essences must be picked at the correct time of day and in the correct season, and in particular weather conditions in order that a maximum yield of the essential oils can be obtained, and of course, as with all medicinal or nutritional plants, soil conditions, and climatic conditions will also dictate the quality of the oils obtained. Heavy, concentrated oils are called ABSOLUTES e.g.: Rose, Jasmine, Oils which are solid at room temperature and which must be warmed before use are called BALSAMS, e.g.: Benzoin and Camphor. HOW DO ESSENTIAL OILS WORK? Essential oils are known to have an effect on us in three different, but overlapping, ways. a) On the physical body, both locally and systemically, via the lymphatic and blood circulation. b) On the mind and emotions via the Sense of Smell and the Limbic System. c) On the Etheric Energy System of the body via the energy vibration of the individual oils themselves. The Way Essential Oils Effect the Physical Body When Essential oils are applied to the surface of the body, either via Massage, Baths, Compresses, Creams or Lotions, they will have an effect locally (i.e. the site at which they are applied), and Systemically (i.e. throughout the body). The Systemic effect occurs when essential oils are absorbed through the skin into the Lymphatic Circulation, and they are then dumped from the Lymphatic circulation into the blood stream. Once the oils are circulating in the blood, they are carried to their TARGET ORGAN/S, where they exert a therapeutic effect on the specific tissues. Every Essential oil has its own Target Organ, e.g. Juniper oil targets the urinary tract and kidneys in particular, with secondary effects on the Digestive, Respiratory and Reproductive Systems. Chamomile Oil targets the Nervous System via which it can then exert a broad effect on many other body Systems, like the Digestive Tract for example. Even when Essential oils are inhaled only, say in the form of a steam inhalation for a cold or as a fumigator for a background psychological effect, the oils will be absorbed across the mucous membranes of the Respiratory Tract and lungs into the blood stream, where once again, they can travel around the body very rapidly. If Essential Oils are taken orally, their absorption through the Mucosa of the stomach and into the blood is very rapid. Very few essential oils are actually digested, which is fortunate as their Therapeutic principles may well be altered if this were the case. The reason why Essential Oils behave in this manner in the body is because the molecules of which they are composed are organic molecules and very small indeed. Below are some of the more common Therapeutic Properties which can be obtained by using Essential Oils. SOME THERAPEUTIC PROPERTIES OF ESSENTIAL OILS 1. ANTISEPTIC All essential oils are to a greater or lesser extent ANTISEPTIC. This is one of their most important and valuable properties. This broad description of ANTISEPSIS includes anti viral, antifungal, anti-bacterial and general anti-microbial activity which is found in such oils as: Lemon, Thyme, Tea Tree, Garlic, Eucalyptus, Cinnamon, Pine, Lavender and Sandalwood. 2. ANTI-INFLAMMATORY Oils with this property help to ease inflammation. The symptoms of inflammation are typified by pain, redness, swelling, and partial or total loss of function of the tissue involved. Examples of oils with this property are Chamomile, Rose, Lavender, Sandalwood, Myrrh and Benzoin. 3. CYTOPHYLACTIC Restoration of tissue function and regeneration of cells is another outstanding property of essential oils. Oils such as Pine, Basil and Rosemary are known to restore function to the adrenal glands, Jasmine, Cypress, and Ylang Ylang restore function of reproductive endocrine glands, lavender and chamomile stimulate cell regeneration in the skin. 4. SEDATIVE Essential oils may also have a pronounced effect on the nervous system by producing relaxation, pain relief and relieving muscle spasm. Oils with these properties include Lavender, Neroli, Rose, Geranium and Ylang Ylang. However, the most outstanding property possessed by essential oils is their antiseptic/antigenetic properly. This is well documented in Dr Jean Valnet’s book, “The Practice of Aromatherapy” and he discusses at length the effects of specific oils in relation to the control of extremely virulent microbes like Meningitis bacteria, Golden Staphylococcus bacteria and typhoid bacteria. In your Reading for Week One, in the Chapter entitled “The Healing Power of Plants”, from Valnet’s book, there are extensive references to the many ways in which essential oils can affect the physical body. It is critical to your full understanding and appreciation of Essential Oil Therapy that you appreciate the ways in which essential oils can have both a healing and preventive role in diseases involving invasion of the body by microbes. Tittles Top Ten: How to Wow Em at a Job Interview During an Economic Downturn

By Dave Tittle Layoffs and fewer job opportunities have made the Washington job scene a buyers market; there is a glut of good candidates. Relax, with all of the layoffs, if you are out there looking, youre probably one of them. As always, though, landing a good job means going through the dreaded job interview. Some of them are friendly. Others are meat grinders. In any case, here are ten tips for wowing em and making them want to call you for a return visit. Research, research, research. Know the company cold. Find out what its pain points are and be ready to explain how you can help ease them. Be on time. Arrive 10 minutes early so you wont be huffing and puffing into the office at the appointed hour. People are human. Most of them will decide within the first five minutes whether they want to hire you. Be yourself — but not the same YOU that your wacky beach house friends find so adorable. Demonstrate a sense of humor, but dont do 20 minutes of standup about your off-the-wall family. Stay focused. Prepare a great, 30-second speech on your accomplishments on the job and elsewhere. Listen more than you talk. There is nothing an interviewer likes better than the sound of his own voice. Be ready to explain why you are leaving or left your last job. Dont disparage your old manager or the company. It sounds unprofessional, — even if your old boss has a well-earned reputation for being a horses ass. Be honest, but dont pour your heart out. If the interviewer asks you What is your biggest weakness? pause thoughtfully, and say, I guess I set my goals very high and tend to work too many hours. It sounds better than, I cant even face the day until noon. If you want the job, ask for it. A less-qualified, but enthusiastic candidate, will beat a more qualified, but seriously attitude-challenged candidate every time. Treat the receptionist and other support people at the employers office with respect. If you dis them they will tell the interviewer and wreck your chances. Besides, its not nice. Rugged Outdoor Elegance: All Weather Indoor / Outdoor Rugs

By Trey Collier Remember When . . . In the not too distant past, the words “outdoor rug” referred to something like a small patch of Astroturf that one placed out on the patio. Those old outdoor rugs were basically utilitarian, and they sure didn’t add anything aesthetically pleasing to the landscape. But then again, few people cared much about what patios looked like at the time. Outdoor Rooms Come into Their Own All that is changing. Now, it is not uncommon to hear decorators, architects, and outdoor enthusiasts talk about “outdoor rooms,” showing that patios and decks are much more than just somewhere to store a grill. They have become integral parts of the home, and as such are treated like any other room in the house. Of course, along with this exalted view of outdoor rooms came the desire for higher quality and more stylish outdoor products. Enter braided outdoor rugs. An improvement over the older models, braided rugs were more pleasing to the eye, and, being made of polypropylene, they were also water, UV, mold, and rot resistant. Indoor / Outdoor Rugs Recently, though, there has been an even bigger leap in outdoor rug manufacturing. Now, polypropylene threads are actually woven, as would be done to make a normal indoor rug. The result is rugs that are tough enough to withstand outdoor use, but comfortable and beautiful enough for indoor use, especially in high traffic areas. And because they are available in virtually any imaginable color and pattern, they can easily be matched to any home decor. One advantage of these indoor / outdoor rugs is how easy they are to clean. Usually they can simply be hosed off, and even if they get especially dirty, all that is needed is some mild soap. Thus, in addition to patios and decks, woven all weather rugs are also ideal for kitchens and mudrooms, where spills and messes are common. Indoor / outdoor rugs are one more step in blurring the traditional distinctions between the inside and outside of homes. These amazing rugs can take comfort and elegance outside, as well as bring rugged durability inside. Trey Collier is owner of BackyardCity.com, North America’s finest Outdoor Casual Living Store, designed and created to help fashion the outdoor living space, deck, porch, or patio you’ve always dreamed of having. Since 2001, BackyardCity.com has offered internet customers quality outdoor living products at very reasonable prices. Tell Stories About Benefits to Get Yourself Heard

By Michael Keith Clark A Feldenkrais practitioner came to me about a year ago needing more effective marketing materials for her practice. I was excited to help because Feldenkrais had given me almost total pain relief from severe and chronic back pain many years ago. To me, Feldenkrais is a Godsend. But you have probably never heard of it. When I started gathering information and material for Feldenkrais, I searched the web to see how other Feldenkrais practitioners marketed themselves. I was astounded by the lack of marketing know how. Almost every site out there starts out by explaining what Feldenkrais is or who Dr. Feldenkrais was. Its all stuff like, Its a movement re-education system, blah blah blah. Almost no one talked about benefits like pain relief. When I talked to the practitioner about telling prospective clients about pain relief, better balance, and better coordination, she hesitated. Not everyone got pain relief. Having experienced such dramatic pain relief myself, I absolutely wanted her to market with this. I also know potential clients want to know you can help them. Since then Ive worked with other Alternative practitioners and workshop leaders. Universally, I find that they dont use benefits to market. They all want to talk about the process. The problem is, your prospects dont really care that much about the process. They are really focused on results. They want to know whats in it for them. Will you or will you not solve their problem, stop the pain, build their self esteem, etc.? If you want more clients or more class participants, you need to start educating prospective users about how you will help them. Dont explain the process. Tell success stories. Tell how other people have benefited from what you did for them. When they ask how you do it, invite them to a session with you to experience it for themselves. Dont fall for the trap and start explaining how it works. Yes, they asked how, but what they really want to know is, will it work for me? Your answer should be to ask what pain or problem they are experiencing and then to share a time that you helped someone in a similar situation. Follow up with an offer to have a session with you to learn more. And dont offer this as a free session. Even if your practice is alternative, I assume you are trained and highly skilled. Charge for the first visit. You deserve it. Update your marketing materials as well. Do they headline the problem you are solving? If not, revise them. If you are going to explain how you work, put that at the end. Better yet, dont do it. Tell success stories instead. Use quotes from clients. Let them know you can help. My Feldenkrais client experienced a five-fold increase in participants at the first introductory talk after changing her marketing. Not everyone gets this kind of increase, but you can expect to double your success rate or more. Thats a lot more people that you can help. Im sure you started in your profession to help others the best you can. Using these guidelines you can help others and help yourself at the same time. Check List Before Going On a Date or a Night on the Town Looking for Romance

By Don Diebel I have put together a list of things you need to do just in case you bring a woman back to your place from a date or just some woman you pick up. Follow these guidelines so you will be prepared and make a good impression: Is your bed made up and do you have clean sheets and pillowcases? Make sure your toilet and bathtub are spotless. I can assure you they will look and if they are dirty they will be turned off. Put a fresh roll of toilet paper on. Have your fresh condoms ready and near your bed. If she spends the night, be sure to have something for her to eat for breakfast (bacon, eggs, and toast would be ideal). Turn the volume on your answering machine down. You don’t want to be embarrassed if one of your girlfriends or ex-girlfriends calls and leaves an intimate message. If you have a dimmer switch for your lights, turn them down low before leaving. If you don’t have a dimmer switch, install very low wattage light bulbs in your lights. This is to create a soft and romantic atmosphere when you have a woman over. If you have a fireplace, put some logs on or have a Duraflame log ready to light. This way everything is ready to light up when you bring a girl over. Be sure and use this great prop for creating an intimate seductive setting. I’ve seduced lots of single women with my fireplace. Have your soft and romantic music out and ready to put on after you hit the door with your date. Make sure your bar is stocked with liquor, wine, beer, and champagne so you can offer her a drink. Make sure your icebox is clean and does not smell (tip – have an open box of baking soda in there to help absorb odors). Trust me, single women notice little things like what your icebox looks like. Make sure you have something to snack on in case you decide to watch a movie or TV. Make sure your house or apartment is clean before you leave. Most single women are turned off by a dirty, unclean, and cluttered place. She may get the impression that you are a lazy slob.
